Center for Mindful Body Awareness

Mission:

The mission of the Center of Mindful Body Awareness is to increase access to mindful body awareness strategies for self-care.  A non-profit center, we offer trainings to practitioners and develop programs for integration into clinical services.

Vision:

To achieve our mission, a primary activity of the Center is to train a diverse group of practitioners in the Mindful Awareness in Body-oriented Therapy (MABT) approach to facilitate dissemination of mindful body awareness practice.  With the potential for a broad base of application, MABT programs are appropriate for multiple populations and offer relevant skills to diverse providers such as:

  • Massage and bodywork therapists
  • Mental health providers/psychotherapists
  • Mindfulness-based teachers/practitioners
  • Substance use counselors
  • Nurses
  • Doctors
  • Physical Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists

In collaboration with agencies and service providers, the Center will train staff,  seek funding to hire practitioners trained in MABT, and develop programs for implementation of services in clinic settings.  To increase access to the MABT approach, we are particularly interested in collaborating with agencies and clinics that work with underserved populations.

Through responsive and well designed program evaluation, the Center will gather data to to increase knowledge pertinent to delivery, health outcomes, and cost effectiveness of MABT in a variety of settings, across different populations and by distinct healthcare practitioners.  This information can be used to refine programs within the Center and potentially applied to other venues and applications within like minded agencies and service providers.
